Bayern Munich hope to agree deal with Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich will reportedly aim to strike an agreement with 26-year-old French international Dayot Upamecano over a new contract amid his links with European bigwigs.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United are interested in Dayot Upamecano. The Bayern Munich defender has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Bavarian outfit, and they are eager to finalise an agreement over a new deal. However, time is quickly running out for the Bundesliga champions.

Dayot Upamecano and his time in Bundesliga

Dayot Upamecano has been one of the most revered defenders in the Bundesliga over his spells with RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old was already a well-known player during his stint with RB Leipzig, and his time with Bayern Munich has yielded him trophy-winning success in the last few years.

The French international has made over 150 appearances thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with five goals and ten assists. However, Upamecano faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena after entering the final 12 months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Barcelona, Manchester United, and Real Madrid among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Barcelona may dip into the market for a centre-back next year after failing to land a long-term replacement for Inigo Martinez. While Eric Garcia has stepped up this season, Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen face an uncertain future at the Catalan club. So, Upamecano has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with Hansi Flick keen on landing the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Dayot Upamecano is understandable. Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30, and he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. With widespread reports linking the veteran English defender with a possible exit, Manchester United can do with a long-term replacement.

As for Real Madrid, Los Blancos will pursue a Bosman move for Upamecano next summer. With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger on the wrong side of 30, Real Madrid can do with a new centre-back. So, Upamecano is a viable target for Real Madrid, with the 26-year-old Frenchman’s situation making him an appealing option. However, Bayern Munich will aim to tie the player to a new contract.

The latest report has revealed that the Bundesliga champions are optimistic about finding a common ground with Upamecano in the coming weeks. However, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the French international amid his links with Barcelona, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.
