Manchester United keen on Jean-Philippe Mateta

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of Crystal Palace attacker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Jean-Philippe Mateta could end up joining a bigger Premier League club in the near future. The player seeks a bigger challenge, and according to a report from Fichajes, Manchester United are keen on the French striker’s signature.

Mateta has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Selhurst Park from FSV Mainz at the start of 2021. While it was an initial loan deal, the move was made permanent in 2022. The 28-year-old has been a force to reckon with in recent seasons.

Last season, he bagged 17 goals and four assists across competitions. While he hasn’t lit up the world in the new campaign, the Palace striker does have four goals so far. His recent performances have finally helped him break into the French national team.

Mateta could be heading to Old Trafford

While his contract at Selhurst Park runs until the summer of 2027 and Palace are reluctant to lose one of their mainstays, Manchester United are keen on signing him. Despite having added a lot of firepower in the summer, things haven’t really gone according to plan for the Red Devils.

They are now looking to add more quality in the final third. They admire Mateta because of his strong physical presence and goal-scoring prowess. The club feels he could help add more goals to Amorim’s team.

As a result, the Manchester-based giants are ready to make a move for him in 2026. However, prising him away from Selhurst Park won’t be that easy. He is considered a very important part of Palace’s first team, and they want to ensure he continues at the club at all costs.

Palace are aware of the increasing interest in his services and they have stepped up their efforts to renew his contract to ensure his continuity. While they do not intend to lose the 28-year-old, the right financial offer could make them change their stance.

They value him at around €50 million, and a figure close to that could make things interesting. Mateta seeks a bigger challenge, and that could certainly help the Red Devils in their pursuit.
