Liverpool uninterested in selling Federico Chiesa in January
Arne Slot’s Liverpool now have no intentions of negotiating Federico Chiesa’s departure in the winter transfer window.
Reports earlier suggested that Liverpool could listen to offers for Federico Chiesa in the upcoming transfer window. However, according to Football Insider, the Merseyside club have made a dramatic U-turn regarding his future. They are no longer interested in letting him leave midway through the season.
Chiesa came into the limelight on the back of his impressive performances for club and country. However, injuries derailed his career, and he ended up joining the Reds in the summer of 2024 from Juventus in the hope of reviving himself.
However, the debut season did not really go according to plan for him as he had very limited game time. While Liverpool lifted the Premier League title, Chiesa hardly played a part in it, as he was involved in just six league outings.
The 27-year-old winger was linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer. However, he decided to continue at the club. Things have not really gone according to plan for him, as he has only had 153 minutes of first-team action in the new season despite contributing towards four goals.
Chiesa won’t leave mid-season
Chiesa was expected to be on the move in the winter window in search of a more prominent role. But the report suggests he is set to continue at Anfield, as Slot is set to hand him a much bigger role on the back of his impressive start to the season.
While the former Juventus winger was initially left out of their UEFA Champions League squad, he has replaced the injured Giovanni Leoni. Chiesa has had quite an impact in the limited opportunities he has had. Given the number of attacking signings the Reds made during the summer, it seemed Chiesa’s time at the club was coming to an end.
However, Chiesa’s performances have helped save his Liverpool career. The 27-year-old averages a goal or assist every 38 minutes, and with their new signings struggling to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, Slot could hand Chiesa regular minutes in the coming months.
