Chelsea step up interest in Adam Wharton, could hijack Manchester United move

Chelsea have intensified their efforts to sign Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton, amidst interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea have stepped up their interest in the services of Adam Wharton. The Blues are looking to add more quality to their midfield, and they could hijack Manchester United’s move for the English international.

Wharton came up the ranks at Blackburn Rovers, and he made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining the Eagles at the start of 2024. He has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Selhurst Park.

Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but the 21-year-old defensive midfielder has also broken into the England national team. Wharton’s consistent performances and massive potential have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the country.

Adam Wharton’s composure on the ball, his passing range and ability to dictate the tempo of the game are major reasons why Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are all after his signature.

Premier League giants to battle for Wharton’s signature

The Reds Devils have entered the race for his signature, as Ruben Amorim looks to add more quality to his midfield in the winter window. With Casemiro likely to leave the club at the end of the season, Manchester United are looking to bring in someone who can not only replace him but also become one of their mainstays in the long run.

Adam Wharton is a priority target for Manchester United, and they could test Crystal Palace’s resolve as early as January. With Manchester United pushing for his signature, Chelsea have decided to step up their pursuit of the 21-year-old midfielder.

The Blues are looking for a more reliable option in the centre of the park, with Romeo Lavia struggling to stay fit. Wharton is an ideal fit for their project, which revolves around signing the best young players.

The West London club are looking to hijack Manchester United’s move, and he could end up making a move in the winter despite having initially thought of pushing for his signature next summer.

Tottenham are also keen on his signature as he is among the best young midfielders in the country. But, they seem to have other priorities at this point. While the Eagles are reluctant to lose one of their best players and would want him around at least until the end of the season, a bid of around £70 million could force them to re-evaluate their stance.
