Crystal Palace eyeing Nicolas Raskin as Adam Wharton replacement
Crystal Palace will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Belgian international Nicolas Raskin as a long-term replacement for Adam Wharton next year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Nicolas Raskin is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder next year amid uncertainties surrounding Adam Wharton’s long-term future. So, the 24-year-old Rangers mainstay has emerged as a target for the South London outfit.
Nicolas Raskin and his career so far
Nicolas Raskin has been among the best players in the Scottish Premiership since joining Rangers from Standard Liege in January 2023. A native of Liege, the highly-rated midfielder spent his formative years in Belgium, passing through the academies at FC Stade Waremmien, Standard Liege, RSC Anderlecht, and KAA Gent.
However, the 24-year-old returned to Standard Liege before becoming a first-team player for the club from his hometown. Meanwhile, Raskin has risen in prominence in the last two and a half years, having been a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Scottish Premiership giants.
The Belgian international has made over 100 appearances thus far for Rangers while chipping in with seven goals and eight assists, with his output improving with each passing campaign. Meanwhile, Raskin’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Crystal Palace will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.
London calling?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Nicolas Raskin is understandable. The Eagles are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding Adam Wharton’s long-term future. While the English international is happy at Crystal Palace, he is courting suitors from the Premier League and La Liga.
Recent reports have also claimed that the 2024/25 FA Cup winners are ready to offer Wharton a new contract to ward off his suitors. Nevertheless, they must keep their options open, and Raskin has emerged as a viable target.
However, it is unclear how much Rangers will demand to part ways with the 24-year-old Belgian international. It will be interesting to see if Raskin becomes Crystal Palace’s top target to replace Wharton if the Englishman inches closer to departing from Selhurst Park next year.
