Liverpool eyeing winter move for Ousmane Diomande
Liverpool will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Ivory Coast international Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP in the winter transfer window.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Ousmane Diomande is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future. So, the 21-year-old Sporting CP defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside club.
The Ivorian defender is one of several options on Liverpool’s radar, and a winter bid may be on the cards. However, the Premier League champions face stiff competition from Chelsea for Diomande’s signature heading into the January transfer window.
Ousmane Diomande and his rapid rise
Ousmane Diomande has established himself as one of the world’s best young defenders since joining Sporting CP from FC Midtjylland in January 2023. The 21-year-old has become a household name in the last two and a half years, becoming a mainstay at the back for his club and country. However, the youngster has lost his spot at the onset of the 2025/26 season.
The Ivory Coast international has made over 100 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with six goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Diomande’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing him, with Chelsea and Liverpool among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Ousmane Diomande has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Blues have lost Levi Colwill to a long-term knee injury. Widespread reports have suggested that Chelsea will aim to sign a centre-back in the winter transfer window. So, Diomande is a viable target for the West London club.
As for Liverpool, the Reds were keen on signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window and came close to signing Marc Guehi. However, a deal did not materialise, and Guehi remains on the Merseyside club’s radar. Meanwhile, Liverpool will also pursue other centre-backs, with Diomande an option worth considering.
Speaking of Guehi, Crystal Palace may pursue the Ivorian defensive prospect as a replacement Guehi next year. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 21-year-old Ivory Coast international.
