Trophies key to keeping Mike Maignan at AC Milan amid Chelsea, Manchester United links
AC Milan would need to show they have the knack of winning trophies to stand a chance of keeping star goalkeeper Mike Maignan amid heavy interest.
According to TEAMtalk, Mike Maignan could continue at AC Milan beyond the summer if the club has ambitions to win trophies. The France international is out of contract next summer, with Chelsea and Manchester United eyeing a Bosman move next summer.
Mike Maignan was very close to joining Chelsea in the summer, before the FIFA Club World Cup. However, the move fell through as the Blues were unwilling to pay what AC Milan wanted at the time, as he ended up remaining at San Siro for the foreseeable future.
Milan consider the value of their France international star as very high, as per market standards, although they were unwilling to make a compromise to sell him. The issue for the Rossoneri is his expiring contract that ends in the summer of 2026, which opens a window for clubs to make their move.
Chelsea are in the mix to sign him on a Bosman move, as they have maintained an interest in signing the France international despite their failed move earlier. The same goes for Manchester United, who are keen on Mike Maignan to solve their goalkeeping problems.
However, Milan are still hoping to keep hold of the player and agree on fresh terms. Should they fail to do that, they might have to spend heavily to replace him. As per TEAMtalk, the Rossoneri stand a chance to do so if they can show a big ambition in winning trophies consistently.
The source said, “Milan’s resurgence under Massimiliano Allegri has been electric. Trophies could be the key to keeping Mike here.”
Do AC Milan have a chance to keep Mike Maignan?
AC Milan are flourishing under the tutelage of Massimiliano Allegri, and stand a chance to win honours unlike some of their previous seasons. However, the current gap between them and rivals like Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli is considered high, but the Rossoneri are here to fight.
At the end of the season, depending on the progress made, the 30-year-old goalkeeper could make a big decision on his future. For now, Mike Maignan is probably leaning towards leaving amid the interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
