Darren Bent slams Morgan Rogers and makes “not interested” jibe amid poor form

Former English striker Darren Bent has accused Morgan Rogers of being ‘not interested’ in performing for Aston Villa this season.

Darren Bent, the talkSPORT presenter and former Premier League striker, has accused Morgan Rogers of certain things. The Aston Villa mainstay has been dreadful for the club this season, but as Bent pointed out, he was terrific when playing for England during the recent international break.

Rogers has been the subject of big interest from many teams as per multiple reports., Some quarters suggested he could be tempted to join a UEFA Champions League club after Aston Villa failed to finish in the required places last term.

Aston Villa had no plans to sell him, and in fact, there is talk of Rogers signing a bumper new deal to commit his future at the club. In any case, Rogers is tied down to the club until 2030, so Aston Villa are not under any sort of pressure to decide the attacker’s future.

Chelsea were also keen, and probably the strongest suitor for Rogers amid others like Tottenham and Liverpool, as per many reports. However, Aston Villa made it very clear not only with their intention to keep him but also by slapping a massive asking price if push came to shove.

Whether the failure to join a Champions League side in the summer has affected Rogers’s performances for Aston Villa is a question often being asked of late. Now Darren Bent, through his comments on talkSPORT via Give Me Sport, has accused the Aston Villa mainstay of being ‘not interested’ in performing for his club this season.

Bent said, Morgan Rogers looks like he is not interested, and fans are quite quick when they see a player not quite running or doing what they were doing last season, they go ‘hold on, what’s going on here?”

“Well, he was linked to some big clubs, and maybe he was thinking ‘oh I wouldn’t mind one of them’ and it hasn’t happened. And that’s why maybe he’s a little bit throwing his toys out the pram a little bit. Because he was good for England.”

There could be some element of truth in how Bent portrays the argument, taking his performances for England into account. It is quite baffling how bad Rogers has been for Aston Villa this season, not only in the league but also in other competitions.

Aston Villa secured their first win of the season in the UEFA Europa League game against Bologna, where Rogers was once again anonymous. There is hope from Unai Emery to see the England international flourish as the season progresses, but as Bent puts out, the signs are worrying.
