Oliver Glasner reveals Marc Guehi disappointment after failed Liverpool move

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner revealed what Marc Guehi said after his failed move to Liverpool in the summer on deadline day.

Liverpool finished their transfer window on deadline day with the signing of Alexander Isak after a protracted saga. Ideally, the club would have loved to add Marc Guehi to their incomings on the final day of the window and add gloss to their overall business.

Despite agreeing a fee with Crystal Palace, the deal ultimately collapsed in the eleventh hour, after the Eagles failed to sign a replacement in the time remaining. The club decided to pull the plug on the transfer, which left Guehi a bit disappointed in the aftermath.

Liverpool were linked with a January move again after the season-ending injury to summer arrival and Italian defender Giovanni Leoni. However, that may not be the case, as the Merseysiders are not prepared to pay a big fee for a player they could theoretically sign on a free transfer in a few months.

Many reports circulating after the failed transfer to Liverpool indicated the defender was disappointed with Palace and was angry at their idea of pulling the plug. However, Palace boss Oliver Glasner has now revealed what Guehi told him in the aftermath of the failed move, as his comments on Fabrizio Romano’s post on X indicate the defender remains committed to playing for Palace.

Glasner said, “Of course, Guehi was a little bit disappointed after the Liverpool saga. But then he said, no, it’s fine, I like being here, I like the team, I like the staff, I like Crystal Palace, I’m a south London boy, I will give my best. “I knew this would happen.”

As for Guehi’s future, Liverpool are hopeful of signing him on a free transfer next summer, and for now, they remain in the front seat. However, they are not alone anymore and no longer have a straightforward path towards the Palace centre-back.

Manchester City are keen to sign him in 2026, while Chelsea are also thinking similarly. However, there’s also a big interest from Real Madrid, with a recent report stating that Guehi prefers a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Should Real Madrid sign Guehi, it would be a double blow for Liverpool, as their current star Ibrahima Konate is also heavily linked with a Bosman move next summer. For now, Palace will look forward to Guehi putting in a big performance at the weekend against Liverpool, as Glasner will hope to continue the current unbeaten run across all competitions.
