Conor Gallagher frustrated at Atletico Madrid amid Premier League links
A host of Premier League sides could be boosted by Conor Gallagher’s stance over his Atletico Madrid future, with a January move possible.
According to TBR, Conor Gallagher is reportedly growing frustrated by the prospect of limited game time at Atletico Madrid. The midfielder could be made aware of a host of Premier League clubs showing interest, which could see the midfielder return to England to save his World Cup dreams.
Conor Gallagher was a topic of discussion in the Premier League circles around the latter stages of the window. Atletico Madrid only signed the midfielder in the summer of 2024, and after a productive season in Madrid, some doubts are creeping in about his long-term prospects in the Spanish capital.
Atletico Madrid strengthened their midfield with the likes of Johnny Cardoso, with his arrival pushing Gallagher down the pecking order. The England international is already growing frustrated at the prospect of limited game time. While Diego Simeone has not indicated that to be the case, the 25-year-old La Liga midfielder did start in midweek in the Champions League against Liverpool.
However, some high-profile teams are keeping close tabs on Gallagher’s situation, with Manchester United reportedly failing with a late approach. Some complexities prevented Atletico Madrid from selling Gallagher at that stage of the window, although they might be open to the prospect should they have plenty of time to replace him.
With Gallagher growing frustrated with a potential lack of game time, his biggest fear is missing out on the World Cup squad for next year. Thomas Tuchel will likely use other stars who are playing regularly for their clubs, which may be something the 25-year-old La Liga midfielder will wish for if his situation regresses between now and January.
Premier League sides could sign Conor Gallagher
Tottenham and Manchester United are among those interested, with either of those teams likely to make a bid to bring the 25-year-old La Liga midfielder. Spurs are already prioritising a move for Gallagher in January, although they may have to pay a big fee as well as ward off competition, with the same goes for Manchester United.
Newcastle United were also interested in the summer, but they did not make any concrete move for the midfielder during the window. However, the Magpies could revisit the idea ahead of January, but so will Manchester United and Tottenham, as all eyes will be on Atletico Madrid and their decision on the midfielder.
