Barcelona linked with free agent number nine that could replace Robert Lewandowski next summer

Barcelona will be likely be faced with the task of replacing Robert Lewandowski next summer, with no guarantees they will be able to spend big in the process. Already the Blaugrana are behind on their projected budgets for the season with delays on their return to Camp Nou impacting their income.

The feeling is that this is Lewandowski’s last season at Barcelona, as he enters into the final year of his deal. The 37-year-old is competing with Ferran Torres for minutes this year, but without him, the Blaugrana do not have a natural number nine option.

After being linked with Jonathan David last season, Barcelona may well be looking at more economic options to compete with Torres next season. GdS (via Sport) say that Barcelona are amongst the group of top European sides monitoring Dusan Vlahovic’s progress this season. The Serbian’s contract at Juventus is up next summer, and Vlahovic is set to turn 26 by that point. They say his priority is to play in the Premier League, but is demanding €10m net per season, which would make him one of the best-paid players at Barcelona. The Blaugrana have been linked to Vlahovic in the past.

Atletico Madrid and Manchester United in the frame

Manchester United are also cited as another of those sides, but have spent big on Benjamin Sesko this summer. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid, who were linked with Vlahovic this summer, are another alternative.

Los Rojiblancos would also make sense as a move for Vlahovic, with Alexander Sorloth yet to convince at the Metropolitano as the de facto number nine. If Atletico are keen to partner Julian Alvarez with someone, then Vlahovic could be an option, although they are unlikely to meet those wage demands. This season Vlahovic has started off well, scoring four times and giving one assist in his four appearances.
