Chelsea enter race to sign Marc Bernal

Chelsea are eager to explore a move for Marc Bernal in the future, as they will keep close tabs on his situation at Barcelona about his future.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea have entered the race for Marc Bernal, with a future approach certainly a part of their thinking. The Blues may have given up on the prospect of signing Fermin Lopez in the near future, which has made them shift their focus towards another Catalan star in Bernal, as they will keep close tabs on his situation with Barcelona.

Many clubs tried to explore moves for some of Barcelona’s players during the summer and take advantage of their ongoing financial situation. Chelsea were at the forefront, as they tried very hard to sign Fermin Lopez, while making a sizeable offer for the Spanish giants to consider.

While they are expected to try again for Lopez, some scenarios will not see them succeed in their quest. Barcelona are not expected to sell Lopez, which will be a big roadblock for the Blues, although he’s not the only star the Stamford Bridge outfit are looking at.

Marc Bernal is the player they want, whom they pursued in the summer. Chelsea continues to keep close tabs on the player’s situation with Barcelona. As it happened, the midfielder suffered an ACL injury that curtailed his campaign last time out, and while he has returned to full fitness, the 18-year-old Barcelona wonderkid is not yet at his sharpest.

However, Hansi Flick considers him a key part of his plans moving forward. The projections around the club suggest Bernal could develop into a top-draw complete midfielder who could distinguish himself defensively and in the build-up.

Chelsea could make a future approach for Marc Bernal

Chelsea could view Bernal as a top signing for the future, as his contract situation could signal a door to be opened. The 18-year-old Barcelona wonderkid is in the final year of his deal, but the player and the club have an option to extend it by three years. Should the Catalans not see progress from his recent injury, they could make a bid decision on his future, at which point Chelsea will be there to make a move.

There are persistent links from Real Madrid for Enzo Fernandez, and in the future, Bernal could be someone to replace the World Cup-winning Argentine midfielder. However, any deal for the 18-year-old Barcelona wonderkid could be very difficult given the Catalans’ and their likelihood of continuing with Bernal for many more years to come.
