Alexander Isak warned about his conduct after Liverpool move

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore warns Alexander Isak against repeating his Newcastle antics at the Merseyside club.

Alexander Isak’s future was the biggest talking point throughout the summer. The Swedish striker was keen on parting ways with Newcastle United, who had no intentions of letting their best player leave this summer. The Magpies were determined to block a potential exit.

However, the player kept pushing for a move and effectively went on a strike to try to engineer a move to Anfield. He eventually got his wish, as Liverpool secured his services in the final hours of the transfer deadline day in a British record deal worth £125 million.

Given the antics he pulled at Newcastle to secure a Liverpool move, Reds legend Stan Collymore has warned Alexander Isak about his conduct. The former England international believes Isak could face serious repercussions if he attempts something similar at Anfield.

Collymore on Isak’s antics at Newcastle

While speaking to , the 54-year-old said: “Liverpool fans know what Isak has done and they know he could do it again, but it is not just him who has pulled tricks like this,”

“I don’t worry for Liverpool because they know that if Isak does well, two or three years down the road, he might well do what he has just done to Newcastle.

“What I would say is if he tried to do that to Liverpool, a club that is a huge global brand, then it would be much tougher for him.

“Players tend to be a little more clever when they leave a club like Liverpool and if you did what Isak has just done to get out of Newcastle with his new club, there would be major repercussions.

“Social media is an unforgiving place and even if Real Madrid did come in for him, Isak would have to be careful about how he would get another big move.

“What we have seen from Isak this summer is nothing new and it is becoming the norm now.

“I remember at the back end of my career that players started skipping training for a couple of days when they wanted to get out of a club. They can only give you a two-week wages fine and that’s the same if you stay away for longer.

“What it does is put a club under pressure to get someone in who wants to play for the club and it’s a clever way for a player to force through a move.

“Players used put in a transfer request in my day and that meant you gave up bonus payments and signing on fees, but if you just take the two-week wages fine and force through a move, you get what you want and probably end up getting more money out of it.

“Now this seems to have become an accepted way for transfers to be conducted and FIFA don’t seem to do anything to try and stop it.”

Newcastle had no intentions of selling Isak. The Magpies tried their best to hold onto the Swedish striker. They were reportedly ready to hand him a new deal. However, Isak wasn’t willing to continue at the club and made it quite clear that he wouldn’t play for them again.

Isak warned about his antics

The Tyneside club were, in a way, forced to sanction his departure against their will. Collymore believes that if Isak tries to pull something similar at Anfield, he would face global backlash given the stature of the club.

Even if Real Madrid come in for his signature, the Swedish striker will have to act far more professionally if he ever thinks of leaving the Merseyside outfit. In modern football, players often try to push for an exit by skipping training or refusing to play for their contracted club.

While such tactics might be tolerated at clubs like Newcastle, attempting the same at Liverpool won’t go down well. Having done it at Newcastle, Isak could certainly try it again. But he has already been warned by Collymore that it won’t work in his favour if he attempts something similar at Anfield.
