Manchester City ponder winter loan exit for James Trafford, player open to move
Manchester City contemplate sending James Trafford out on loan in January to help him with regular minutes, with the player open to the idea.
According to TBR, Manchester City could put plans in place to send out James Trafford on a six-month loan stint elsewhere in January. The player might be open to the idea of preserving his place in the England squad ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Manchester City had a healthy summer window where Pep Guardiola addressed a few problematic areas. The goalkeeping situation is something the club had to manage with care, as both their keepers entered the final year of their respective deals.
Manchester City beat competition to sign James Trafford from Burnley by paying a record fee for a British goalkeeper. The young star returned to the club after a few productive seasons with the Clarets and started the first team games of the season under Guardiola. While he did come in for some criticisms following losses against Tottenham and Brighton, he did seem like a replacement for Ederson Moraes.
However, Guardiola was not yet satisfied with the goalkeeping situation and chose to complete a late deal for Italian superstar Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG. The arrival of the Champions League winner directly affects Trafford’s immediate future a the club, as the manager started with Donnarumma for the Manchester Derby win on Sunday.
Trafford is probably wondering did he made the right choice by joining Manchester City, as his place has come under direct threat from Donnarumma. As it stands, the Italian is probably the undisputed No. 1 choice under Guardiola in major competitions, which does put the immediate future of the summer arrival from Burnley in doubt.
Manchester City ponder James Trafford loan
Manchester City opened talks for Donnarumma after they had signed Trafford, and now, they are contemplating a loan exit for the latter. They probably feel the need to give Trafford regular minutes elsewhere, which the player is open to, as per the report.
Trafford would welcome the idea of a loan exit in January, given he wants to preserve his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup. He was part of the national team setup during the recent international break, but he was resigned to the bench for games against Andorra and Serbia. Hence, a loan deal could work, as Manchester City already have Stefan Ortega at the club, who could deputise for Donnarumma.
