Crystal Palace looking to agree on a new deal with Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace are looking to secure the long-term future of Oliver Glasner with a new deal, amidst interest from Manchester United.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Crystal Palace are pushing hard to extend Oliver Glasner’s stay at the club. The Eagles are willing to do everything in their power to agree a new deal with the Austrian manager, who has done wonders for them.

Glasner took charge of Palace at the start of 2024. While it was a difficult start to life in the Premier League for the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss, he eventually found his footing, and the Eagles began to click under his guidance. He instilled an impressive brand of football and brought out the best in most of their players.

While they could only manage a 12th-place finish in the league last season, Glasner guided them to their first-ever major silverware, the FA Cup title. He has managed to build on that by clinching the Community Shield at the start of the new season.

Given the performances he has delivered, Palace are eager to secure his long-term future with a new deal. His current contract runs out at the end of this season, and the Eagles are concerned about his future amid growing tension between senior officials and the Austrian manager.

O’Rourke on Glasner’s situation at Palace

While speaking about Glasner’s future, O’Rourke said: “I wouldn’t say there’s no chance of him staying,

“Obviously things are a bit more tense now behind the scenes, there’s no getting away from that.

“He got his way this time in the end, with the club deciding to keep Marc Guehi and turn down the offer from Liverpool at the last minute.

“That shows the power Glasner has at Selhurst Park, and rightly so.

“He’s done a wonderful job at Palace, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

“So Palace are doing everything they can to convince Glasner to sign a new contract.

“But the manager knows he’s in a strong position with only a year left on his deal.”

Glasner could end up leaving Selhurst Park

Oliver Glasner played a massive part in Marc Guehi’s failed deadline day move to Liverpool. He wasn’t willing to let go of his skipper without a proper replacement and forced Steve Parish to pull the plug. While it certainly shows the amount of power he enjoys, it has also resulted in a lot of doubt about his future at the club.

There is a lot of tension behind the scenes at the club. The manager is believed to be frustrated with the transfer business conducted during the summer. The board has failed to back his ambitious plans, and he could choose to walk away when his contract runs out.

United could look to sign Glasner

While Glasner signing a new deal cannot be ruled out, the Eagles will have to put in significant effort to make it happen. Meanwhile, Manchester United are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation, amid uncertainty surrounding Ruben Amorim’s future.

The Red Devils will continue to back Amorim for as long as possible, but if he fails to deliver the desired results, they could look at Glasner as an ideal replacement.
