Aston Villa may seek a permanent move for Jadon Sancho

Aston Villa may seek a permanent move for 25-year-old Manchester United flop Jadon Sancho in next summer’s transfer window if he hits the ground running.

According to a report by Football Insider, Jadon Sancho may be in contention to secure a permanent move to Aston Villa. The Villans have signed the Manchester United flop on a season-long loan deal, completing the move on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

The rising Premier League giants are open to completing a permanent move for the Englishman next summer if he hits the ground running in his first few weeks at Villa Park. However, Manchester United will likely trigger the clause to extend Sancho’s contract by 12 months before he secures an eagerly sought departure from Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho and another frustrating loan exit

Jadon Sancho has been a troublemaker for much of his spell with Manchester United. The 25-year-old has been a dud since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. Additionally, his conduct off the pitch has rubbed managers the wrong way, with a run-in with Erik ten Hag two years ago sealing his fate at Old Trafford. However, the 25-year-old has yet to complete a permanent exit, spending the last 18 months on loan spells.

The English international could not secure a permanent move to Chelsea this past summer despite favourable terms for the West London club. Nevertheless, several European bigwigs showed interest in Sancho. While Manchester United wanted a permanent exit, the player made things difficult for them before sealing a deadline-day loan move to Aston Villa.

Will Sancho impress at Aston Villa this season?

Aston Villa’s interest in Jadon Sancho made sense. The Villans were keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing multiple attackers, after they failed to complete permanent moves for Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio when their loan spells ended. So, while Evann Guessand arrived from OGC Nice, Aston Villa pursued another attacking addition.

Aston Villa wanted to re-sign Asensio and discussed a deal for several weeks before the Spanish international joined Fenerbahce. So, Sancho emerged as a viable alternative late in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa and Manchester United quickly negotiating a deadline-day move for the 25-year-old Englishman.

Sancho completed his season-long loan move to Aston Villa in the final hours of the summer transfer window. However, his contract situation has compelled Manchester United to mull over triggering the clause that extends his deal by 12 months. Meanwhile, Aston Villa may complete a permanent move for the troublemaking English international if he hits the ground running in the coming weeks.
