Jan Paul van Hecke stalling Brighton & Hove Albion contract talks

Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke was linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

According to GMS, Brighton want to offer him a new contract, but the Netherlands international is currently stalling contract talks with the Premier League club. He has attracted interest from Liverpool, Tottenham, and Newcastle. It will be interesting to see if they decide to come forward with an offer for the defender in the upcoming windows.

The 25-year-old is a quality defender, and he will be attracted to the idea of competing at the highest level. The opportunity to join Liverpool, Tottenham, or Newcastle will be quite attractive for him. It is no surprise that he has decided to stall contract talks with Brighton. Meanwhile, the Seagulls will be desperate to tie him down to a new deal. He is their best defender, and they will look to keep him at the club for as long as possible.

Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle could use Jan Paul van Hecke

Meanwhile, Liverpool could use more quality and depth in the defensive unit. Ibrahima Konaté will be a free agent at the end of the season, and he has not signed an extension with the club. Liverpool will need to replace him at the end of the season, and the Netherlands international could be ideal. He has played alongside Virgil van Dijk for the national team, and reuniting with his compatriot at the club level could be quite exciting.

Similarly, Tottenham need more depth in the defensive unit as well. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven had injury problems last season, and they cannot afford to depend on the two players to play every game.

As far as Newcastle are concerned, they have secured Champions League qualification, and they managed to win a domestic trophy last season. They will look to build on it and put together a formidable side capable of fighting for trophies every season. They were quite vulnerable defensively last season, and they have looked mediocre at the back this season as well. They need to tighten up defensively, and signing the Netherlands international would be a wise decision.

The £50,000-a-week Premier League defender could improve all three clubs, and it remains to be seen where he ends up eventually.
