Angelo Stiller snubbed a summer move to Manchester United

Manchester United reportedly failed with a move for Angelo Stiller, and should they return with another approach, there’s already competition in place.

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United had reportedly failed with a move for Angelo Stiller in the latter stages of the summer window. Should the Red Devils return for the midfielder, there’s already competition in place with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal already keeping tabs.

Angelo Stiller was linked with a move away from Stuttgart right at the start of the summer window, with Real Madrid the club favourites at the time to land him. As the window progressed, talk of a move cooled down, only for it to roar back at the latter stages.

Manchester United considered Stiller as a replacement for Kobbie Mainoo, which was a bit contrasting given earlier reports stated they saw him as an alternative to Carlos Baleba. The German midfielder is not of a defensive type, as he excels in possession, vision and with his passing range.

Manchester United reportedly had doubts, but the report clearly stated they made an approach, which failed. It appears Stiller preferred continuity with Stuttgart, where he is the main star in their midfield, over the uncertainty at another club in a World Cup year.

Hence, he reportedly turned down the idea of leaving late in the window despite Manchester United making plans to trigger his reported £32 million release clause. Stuttgart were relaxed knowing they have a way around the release clause, and they seemingly value the German midfielder at around €60 million.

Manchester United faces intense competition for Angelo Stiller

Should Manchester United prefer to return for Stiller, they are already facing the prospect of competing with their big rivals. Real Madrid and Stuttgart held talks, with the report stating the Spanish giants had an informal conversation with Xabi Alonso deeply interested in the €60m-rated German midfielder.

Arsenal and Barcelona were also linked at one stage, but neither made any overtures, as central midfield was not seen as a priority for those clubs. However, should the doors open in the future, those two sides alongside Real Madrid will compete for the midfielder and compete with Manchester United.
