RCD Mallorca star suspended and stripped of captaincy role following manager comments
RCD Mallorca have taken action against Dani Rodriguez, following comments he made in the aftermath of the match against Real Madrid last weekend.
As per a brief official statement from Mallorca, they have confirmed that Rodriguez, 37, has been suspended with immediate effect, meaning that he will not be involved in Wednesday’s training session. Furthermore, he has also been stripped of his position as vice-position of Los Bermellones, and he will also not be paid during this period.
“RCD Mallorca informs that a suspension of employment and salary has been established for the player Dani Rodríguez. In addition, the club withdraws the captaincy from the player with immediate effect.”

What did Rodriguez say?
After the 2-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, Rodriguez took to social media to criticise head coach Jagoba Arrasate’s decision to bring on new signing Jan Virgili ahead of him. He later clarified his remarks, although that was not enough for him to avoid punishment from Mallorca bosses.
“I travelled with my children’s hopes of seeing their father play at the Bernabeu. An important lesson and piece of advice for them: Never expect anything from anyone, especially these days, when meritocracy, culture, and respect for hard work are so lacking. Don’t do things expecting something in return; do it for yourself and your passion.
“People’s respect and affection are earned on the pitch. Sacrifice yourself for your dreams, even if they put obstacles in your way, and always believe in yourself. Things are earned, not given. And when you earn them, they taste twice as good. I love you, family. You’re the best.”
It remains to be seen whether a resolution is reached on this matter before the international break is over, but as things stand, Rodriguez will not be available for any of Mallorca’s matches going forward – starting with next weekend’s trip to Espanyol.
