Marc Guehi set showdown talks with Crystal Palace after failed Liverpool move

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi was denied a deadline-day move to Liverpool, and that has left the English international dismayed.

Liverpool managed to secure an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign Marc Guehi before the transfer deadline, but they refused to sanction his departure after failing to sign a proper replacement for their club captain.

The latest reports have suggested that 25-year-old defender is unhappy with the situation and that he will hold showdown talks with Crystal Palace after the way he was “betrayed” on deadline day, as per TEAMtalk.

The English international had already completed his medical with Liverpool, and he had filmed his farewell messages with Crystal Palace as well. It seems that Oliver Glasner played a key role in keeping Guehi at the club. The manager threatened Crystal Palace that he could resign if the defender was sold without a quality replacement in place.

Guehi will leave eventually

The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace, and he will leave the club as a free agent next summer. The Eagles could have recouped a substantial amount of money for him this summer, but they have now missed out on that chance. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to come back for the defender when the transfer window reopens in January.

It is no secret that the Reds need a quality defender, and the 25-year-old would be a superb acquisition. Guehi is one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League right now, and he helped Crystal Palace win the FA Cup and the Community Shield recently.

There is no doubt that the English international deserves to compete at a high level. The move to Liverpool would have been ideal for him. The Crystal Palace captain will be devastated by the way the situation played out. He has been thoroughly professional for the Eagles, and he would not have expected the South London club to act in the way they did.

It is highly unlikely that Crystal Palace will be able to convince Guehi to sign a contract extension with them. It seems that the move to Liverpool has been delayed rather than denied for the player. He will hope to complete the transfer in the near future.
