Chelsea make decision on the future of Deivid Washington

Chelsea have recalled Deivid Washington from his loan spell at Brazilian side Santos, with his future set to be decided soon.

According to Itatiaia Esporte, Chelsea have decided to recall young striker talent Deivid Washington from his loan spell at Santos. The highly-rated South American attacker was expected to stay at Santos until the end of the year, but the Blues are now expected to find a fresh solution to his immediate future.

Deivid Washington was one of those players who arrived during a transfer frenzy from Chelsea’s new owners back in the summer of 2023. At the time, the Blues’ ownership were targeting numerous South American players, many of them Brazilians.

Washington was prised away from Santos, having come through the Brazilian side’s academy and had already made a few appearances fr the first team there. Chelsea took him away despite facing competition from Monaco, as Washington chose English football over a switch to France.

He did return to Santos earlier in January on loan, and the idea behind it was to give the highly-rated South American attacker regular minutes under his belt. While he has played 23 games since making the loan switch back to his former side, Washington’s performances have yielded only two goals.

Chelsea have now decided to recall Washington from his loan from Santos, as they are expected to decide on his immediate future. With the transfer window now shut across Europe, there’s still the odd chance to ship him off to Turkey on a permanent deal, or use the loan market, which is still open.

Chelsea’s transfer business in the summer

Chelsea have had another productive summer window, as they focused on strengthening their attacking setup more than any other position. Many attackers arrived, including late entries from Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte, while there were some late calls, including cooling their interest in key target Xavi Simons.

Meanwhile, they also shipped out a few key stars such as Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, with the latter getting his move to Bayern Munich despite the drama surrounding the saga. Overall, the Blues will expect to challenge for honours with the squad available, with Enzo Maresca’s first team now packed with talent across the pitch.
