Chelsea include Tyrique George in Champions League squad after failed Fulham move

Chelsea have decided to include young attacker Tyrique George in their Champions League squad after a failed move to Fulham.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ready to re-integrate Tyrique George back into their main squad after a move to Fulham failed late on deadline day. The Blues are ready to include the young attacker in their Champions League squad for the season, thus negating fears that he could be thrown into the ‘bomb squad’.

Chelsea are infamous for their ‘bomb squad’, which comprises players that they have deemed unwanted for their first team plans. Since the summer of 2024, the specific group has included several high-profile players, and currently incubates the likes of Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi, among others.

However, one player who will not be a part of that group is young attacker Tyrique George. The 19-year-old whizkid attracted plenty of interest in the summer, and at one stage, he was primed to leave Chelsea for a new adventure where he would play regularly.

While he was linked away with RB Leipzig as a concrete target for the Bundesliga outfit, Fulham were the ones who came really close to signing the 19-year-old whizkid. As per Fabrizio Romano, there was an agreement between Chelsea and Fulham for €22 million with a heavy sell-on clause.

Without many updates on the impending transfer, the news came out later that the move had collapsed. It appears, Fulham were aiming to bring George as a replacement for Harry Wilson amid interest from Leeds United late in the window. However, they kept hold of the Frenchman, which in turn affected their chances of signing George. However, they did sign the likes of Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze for their wings.

Chelsea to include Tyrique George in their Champions League squad

While the fears of George being placed on the ‘bomb squad’ have been quashed, Chelsea are in fact ready to integrate the 19-year-old whizkid into their Champions League group. The young attacker is seen as a key part of their squad for the European competition, and he will now be expected to gain plenty of minutes in the continental tournament.

It is good news for Tyrique George, who has bags of talent to show on the pitch. He may not be a starter for key games, but certainly an option for clashes that Enzo Maresca could rest his main starters. In any case, the 19-year-old whizkid is expected to feature a lot on the Chelsea bench in the Premier League as well as the Champions League in the current season.
