West Ham United move for Aleix Garcia collapses

Graham Potter’s West Ham United are no longer keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Aleix Garcia this summer.

West Ham United were looking to add more quality to their midfield, and they were interested in the services of Bayer Leverkusen star Aleix Garcia. However, according to a report from Kicker, the Hammers have pulled out of the race and won’t be trying to strike a deal before the transfer deadline.

Garcia made quite a name for himself while playing for Girona before joining the German giants last summer. In his debut campaign, he racked up over 2,100 minutes of first-team action in his 42 outings and ended up contributing towards nine goals.

Despite not being a regular starter under Xabi Alonso, he did make a significant contribution. The 28-year-old prefers playing as a central midfielder, but he is capable enough to feature as a defensive midfielder as well as in an advanced role.

He still has four years left on his deal and has been a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans so far. However, the Spanish international has been linked with a move away of late. His impressive performances had put him on the radar of West Ham.

West Ham are no longer keen on signing Garcia

The Hammers have been struggling to get the desired results under Graham Potter. The former Chelsea boss isn’t pleased with the performances of his midfielders. He has been keen on adding more quality in the central area, and Garcia was quite high on their wishlist.

While the London club did initiate a move to sign the Leverkusen number eight, they have now pulled out of the race. The deal collapsed after West Ham completed the signing of Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, meaning the Hammers no longer require another central midfielder.

As a result, Garcia will not be moving to the Premier League. With just over a day left in the transfer window, he is expected to remain at Leverkusen for the 2025/26 season. Although the 28-year-old has missed out on a return to England this summer, it will be interesting to see if another opportunity arises in the future.
