Leeds United ramp up efforts to sign Bilal El Khannouss

Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Moroccan international Bilal El Khannouss from Leicester City in the final days of the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Bilal El Khannouss is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a versatile playmaker in the final days of the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old Leicester City prospect has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.

The 2024/25 EFL Championship title winners are intensifying their efforts to sign the Strombeek-Bever native. However, Leicester City will not waver from the increased price worth £35 million to part ways with El Khannouss, with the decision forcing Crystal Palace to call off a summer move.

Bilal El Khannouss and his Leicester City spell so far

Bilal El Khannouss has been a top-notch addition to the first-team squad since joining Leicester City from KRC Genk last summer. Despite Foxes’ dreadful campaign in the Premier League, the 21-year-old made his mark, even though he was not as productive as he would have liked. He has also started the new campaign well, chipping in with two assists in as many EFL Championship outings.

The Moroccan international has made nearly 50 appearances thus far for Leicester City while chipping in with three goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League clubs, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Leeds United’s interest in Bilal El Khannouss is understandable. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a central attacking midfielder who can pull the strings in the final third. Several candidates have thus emerged on Leeds United’s radar.

The 2024/25 EFL Championship title winners chased Facundo Buonanotte for several weeks before Chelsea hijacked the move. The 20-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker is on the verge of joining the West London club. El Khannouss has thus emerged as a viable alternative, with Leeds United accelerating the move.

Meanwhile, Leicester City will demand £35 million to part ways with the 21-year-old Moroccan international, with Leeds United’s move for James Justin alleviating the PSR pressures on them. So, it will be interesting to see if the Whites are ready to meet the Championship club’s revised valuation of £35 million in the coming days.
