AS Monaco in talks to seal loan deal for Axel Disasi
Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco are reportedly keen on re-signing 27-year-old French international Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea in the final days of the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Foot Mercato, Axel Disasi is the subject of interest from AS Monaco. The Ligue 1 giants are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a versatile defender, and they have initiated discussions with Chelsea over a late move. However, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are also keen on signing the French centre-back in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Axel Disasi and his situation
Axel Disasi has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Chelsea from AS Monaco in a deal worth €45 million in August 2023. The 27-year-old was solid in his debut season, but he did not do enough to become an undisputed first-choice starter. The Frenchman struggled for regular game time in the first half of the 2024/25 season before Chelsea loaned him to Aston Villa earlier this year.
However, the French defender managed only 614 minutes of game time in ten appearances for Aston Villa before returning to Chelsea. Meanwhile, Disasi has no future at the West London club, as they are ready to cash in on him. However, the player’s stock in the market is reasonably high, with Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and AS Monaco among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the final days of the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
Aston Villa will likely dip into the market for a centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Villans are yet to replace Disasi since his loan spell ended. Additionally, Tyrone Mings is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. So, the Chelsea misfit is a viable target for Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s interest in Axel Disasi is understandable. The Cherries are desperately scouring the market for a centre-back this summer after parting ways with Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi. So, Disasi has been a top target for the Premier League club, and they recently advanced talks to sign the Frenchman from Chelsea.
However, AS Monaco’s emergence in the battle for Disasi’s signature has complicated matters for Aston Villa and, more so for, Bournemouth. The Ligue 1 giants are eager to bolster their defensive unit after parting ways with Wilfried Singo. While the Chelsea outcast will not be a like-for-like replacement, his versatility makes him an appealing target.
AS Monaco and Chelsea are in talks over a possible loan move, which gives Bournemouth and Aston Villa a window of opportunity to swoop in if they offer a permanent deal. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 27-year-old French international.
