Piero Hincapie closing in on joining Arsenal

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are closing in on the signature of Bayer Leverkusen defensive sensation Piero Hincapie.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Piero Hincapie is expected to make the move to Arsenal in the coming days. The Gunners have been in talks with Bayer Leverkusen of late, and they are on the verge of securing an agreement.

Hincapie joined the German club back in 2021 from CA Talleres. He has only gone from strength to strength since and has established himself as one of their mainstays.

Last season, the 23-year-old centre-back was involved in 45 matches, and he even contributed towards five goals. While he prefers playing in the heart of the defence, Hincapie is capable enough to feature as a left-back or a wing-back when needed.

Arsenal set to sign Hincapie

He has made a strong start to the new season for Leverkusen, but he might not be around when the window shuts. While his contract runs until the summer of 2029, and he is a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans, Arsenal are closing in on his signature.

The Gunners are keen on adding more quality to their backline, and Hincapie is a top target for them because of his age and his versatility. They have been in talks with Leverkusen, and Romano suggests that they could soon strike a deal with the Bundesliga outfit.

Arsenal have been pushing for a loan deal with an obligation to buy, and Leverkusen have accepted the structure of the deal. The final details are being sorted because the player is given the green light to complete the move.

Hinacapie to join Arsenal in a €60 million deal

Meanwhile, Florian Plettenberg has suggested that the negotiations are at an advanced stage and the player is ready to travel for his medical. The final package is expected to be worth up to €60 million.

The Gunners are optimistic about getting the deal over the line, with everything expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours. This would see Hincapie officially become an Arsenal player before deadline day.

It is certainly a great acquisition for Arsenal, as the 23-year-old will not only add competition in central defence but also offer valuable cover at left-back.
