Newcastle United make move to sign Artem Dovbyk
Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Ukrainian international Artem Dovbyk from Serie A club AS Roma in the final days of the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Artem Dovbyk is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Alexander Isak’s long-term future. So, the 28-year-old AS Roma centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners have “made their move” to sign the former Girona striker, hoping to secure his services on a “dry” loan deal. While AS Roma will be open to parting ways with Dovbyk, they want a permanent exit for €30 million or a purchase obligation clause with a loan.
Artem Dovbyk and a frustrating Serie A spell
Artem Dovbyk has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining AS Roma from Girona last summer. The 28-year-old arrived at Stadio Olimpico with a burgeoning reputation after playing an integral role in Girona’s shock UEFA Champions League qualification in the 2023/24 season. However, he has not been as influential for the Serie A club.
The 28-year-old has still managed a decent tally of 17 goals and four assists in 46 appearances thus far for AS Roma. However, Dovbyk faces an uncertain future at the Serie A club this summer, as he is not in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian striker’s stock in the market remains high, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Newcastle United’s interest in Artem Dovbyk makes sense. The Magpies have been combing the market for a striker throughout the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Alexander Isak’s long-term future. Additionally, Callum Wilson has departed from St. James’ Park as a free agent this summer.
Several candidates have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s radar. However, a frustrating summer transfer window has seen them fail to sign their top targets. The EFL Cup 2024/25 winners have recently stumbled in their efforts to land Jorgen Strand Larsen. Newcastle United will now attempt to secure Dovbyk’s services, offering a “dry” loan deal to AS Roma.
However, the Serie A giants want “guarantees” to sanction his departure. The Giallorossi will demand €30 million for a permanent exit or a purchase obligation clause in a loan deal. It will be interesting to see if the 28-year-old Ukrainian international moves to Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
