Manchester United on the verge of signing Senne Lammens

Manchester United are very advanced in negotiations for Senne Lammens as pressure mounts to bring in a new goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United are closing in on a move for Senne Lammens after making an improved offer. The Red Devils have tabled a different bid to their previous one, and talks with Royal Antwerp are at an advanced stage to get the keeper over the line.

Manchester United endured a rather difficult night away at Grimsby Town and suffered a dramatic defeat at the hands of the League Two side on penalties in their EFL Cup second-round clash. Most of the players received criticism, including under-fire keeper Andre Onana.

Signing a new goalkeeper was seen as imperative at Old Trafford during the summer, and the club have so far focused on revamping their frontline. Manchester United are ready to sell Onana, and they will hope to attract interest in the final days of the window.

Despite being linked to several options during the summer, Manchester United appeared to have narrowed down on Royal Antwerp star Senne Lammens. The Red Devils had been in advanced talks earlier, with the report stating they had tabled an offer worth €17 million for the 23-year-old target.

A recent report stated Galatasaray had outbid them for Lammens, and the onus was on Manchester United to respond. It appears the Red Devils have made an improved bid of €20 million, and talks between the two clubs are at an advanced stage with a view to concluding this transfer.

Senne Lammens deal key for Manchester United

The signing of Lammens is considered key for Manchester United, given their glaring problems between the sticks since last season. The idea of going through an entire season with Onana or Altay Bayindir in goal will cause multiple problems for the club in their quest to get back into European places.

The grim defeat at the hands of Grimsby Town showed that even a top-rated keeper like Onana cannot be trusted. Hence, fans will be hoping the club seals the transfer of the 23-year-old target from Royal Antwerp, as Senne Lammens is widely expected to start in goal as their No.1 choice for the season ahead.
