Real Betis making fresh attempts to sign Antony

Real Betis have reignited their pursuit of Manchester United misfit Antony heading into the final week of the transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Betis have not given up on their dream of bringing Antony back to the club. The La Liga outfit are making fresh attempts to secure the services of the Brazilian international, who is no longer part of Manchester United’s plans.

Antony made a name for himself at Ajax before joining United in the summer of 2022 in a big-money move. While people at Old Trafford had a lot of expectations from the Brazilian, he hasn’t been able to live up to them.

He lost his place in the team under former United boss Erik ten Hag and was then loaned out to Real Betis for the second half of last season following the arrival of Ruben Amorim. While things didn’t click for him at Old Trafford, he certainly made the most out of his loan spell.

The 25-year-old winger had a massive impact on Betis’ season. He was involved in a total of 26 matches and ended up contributing towards 14 goals. Manuel Pellegrini was pleased with his performances and has been keen on signing him permanently since the end of last season.

Betis did try to strike a deal with United at the start of the summer, but the cost of the operation was proving difficult for them. After long-drawn negotiations without any real progress, Betis decided to withdraw.

Antony could still return to Betis

While multiple top clubs have been linked with Antony over the course of the summer, nothing concrete has happened so far. With the player still available, Betis have reignited their pursuit of the Brazilian winger.

They continue to work on a potential transfer, with talks ongoing as they look to agree terms with United. Betis are seeking the green light on the structure of the deal before moving forward.

The Spanish club are very keen on bringing him back, and personal terms are unlikely to pose a major problem despite Antony’s hefty wages at United. The winger is expected to accept a pay cut to secure his return to La Liga.
