Brighton & Hove Albion want £25 million for Matt O’Riley amid Everton links

Brighton & Hove Albion will demand around £25 million to part ways with 24-year-old Danish international Matt O’Riley amid his links with Everton over a summer move.

According to a report by Football Insider, Matt O’Riley is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit by signing a versatile midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

However, the Seagulls “will make it difficult” for Everton to sign the London-born midfielder in the summer transfer window. Brighton & Hove Albion will demand the £25 million they coughed up to secure O’Riley’s services last summer when he arrived from Celtic.

Matt O’Riley and his Brighton bother

Matt O’Riley has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Celtic in a deal worth £25 million last summer. The 24-year-old arrived at the Amex Stadium with hype and fanfare surrounding him after an impressive spell with the Scottish giants between 2022 and 2024.

However, an untimely ankle injury hampered O’Riley in the 2024/25 season, and he managed only 948 minutes of game time in 23 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with two goals and three assists. Despite the Danish international midfielder’s struggles at Brighton & Hove Albion, he remains sought-after in the market, with Everton vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Everton’s interest in Matt O’Riley is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after parting ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure. In addition, Idrissa Gueye is in the twilight of his career. So, the Merseyside outfit can do with a midfield reinforcement.

O’Riley has thus emerged as a viable target for Everton. However, Brighton & Hove Albion will “make it difficult” for Everton to sign the London-born midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Seagulls have slapped a price tag of £25 million on the former Celtic midfielder.

Everton’s struggles on the PSR front mean they might not have the funds to afford a deal worth £25 million to sign the 24-year-old Danish international. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for O’Riley after a sub-par debut season with Brighton & Hove Albion.
