Everton make approach to land John Stones
David Moyes’ Everton have enquired about the possibility of re-signing John Stones from Manchester City.
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Everton are interested in re-signing John Stones as David Moyes looks to reinforce his squad ahead of the start of a new era at their brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees have made an initial enquiry to learn more about a potential transfer this summer.
Stones made a name for himself at the Merseyside club before Manchester City signed him back in 2016 in a deal worth up to £50 million. While the English international has been a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s team over the years, things haven’t been that great for the 31-year-old of late as he has been struggling to stay fit.
He was only involved in 20 fixtures during the 2024/25 season with just over 1,100 minutes of first-team action. With him entering the final year of his £250,000-per-week contract, there has been a lot of talk about his future.
Guardiola would love to have him around but he might not be able to guarantee the 31-year-old regular game time with Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and Abdukodir Khusanov expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
As a result, the Spanish manager is seriously considering giving the green light to his potential departure as he looks to trim the squad and make room for new signings. It is a massive boost for Everton, who are looking to re-sign the 31-year-old.
Moyes wants to re-sign Stones this summer
Moyes seeks more quality at the back and he feels the experience of Stones could do wonders for them as he gears up for his first full season at the back following his return mid-way through the 2024/25 season.
He has pinpointed the English international as a top target for the summer and they have already made an enquiry to understand what it would take to bring him back. This comes on the back of Moyes refusing to rule out the possibility of signing someone who can compete with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite for a place in the starting XI.
While his wages could prove to be a major hurdle for Everton, a return to the club could offer Stones regular game time, which would significantly boost his chances of returning to the England squad ahead of the World Cup.
