Leeds United line up Emiliano Buendia swoop

Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Argentine playmaker Emiliano Buendia from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by Sebastien Vidal, Emiliano Buendia is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are combing the market for an experienced playmaker as they prepare to sustain the challenge to remain in the Premier League beyond the 2025/26 season. So, the out-of-favour Aston Villa midfielder has emerged as a target for the West Yorkshire club.

The Whites are preparing a bid worth £16.8 million to sign the Argentine international in the summer transfer window. Unai Emery has “given his blessing” for Buendia to seal a move away from Aston Villa, with the player keen on embarking on a new adventure amid Daniel Farke’s eagerness to reunite with him.

Emiliano Buendia and his Aston Villa woes

Emiliano Buendia has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Aston Villa from Norwich City in July 2021. The 28-year-old arrived at the West Midlands club with a burgeoning reputation after a fruitful three-year stint with the Canaries. However, he has blown hot and cold throughout his spell with Aston Villa.

The West Midlands outfit loaned the South American playmaker to Bayer Leverkusen in January, but he could not establish a foothold at BayArena, either. Buendia managed less than 500 minutes of game time across 14 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit while chipping in with two goals. So, it is hardly surprising that he will return to Aston Villa after a whimper of a loan spell.

What next?

While Emiliano Buendia did not enjoy a fruitful loan stint with Bayer Leverkusen, his stock in the market is high, with Leeds United vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window. Daniel Farke is keen on reuniting with the out-of-favour Aston Villa playmaker, and Leeds United’s interest is understandable.

The Whites are keen on remaining in the Premier League after returning to the top flight after two seasons in the EFL Championship. So, they have shown interest in several midfielders, including Mateus Fernandes. However, Buendia is a viable target due to Farke’s familiarity with his strengths.

Leeds United will soon present a bid worth £16.8 million to sign the 28-year-old Argentine playmaker from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. Unai Emery has “given his blessings” for the move to go through, while the player is eager to embark on a new adventure and end his misery at Aston Villa.
