Mathys Tel ready to sign for Tottenham permanently
Mathys Tel is ready to sign for Tottenham permanently, although any move will depend on how talks progress with Bayern Munich.
According to TBR, Mathys Tel wants to stay at Tottenham and sign a permanent deal ahead of the summer. Talks have already commenced with Bayern Munich to get a deal in place, as there are a few factors that will determine if the 20-year-old Frenchman will move to north London.
Mathys Tel made his loan move to Tottenham in January when Bayern Munich deemed him surplus to requirements. The Bavarians wanted to sell him permanently then but agreed to allow Spurs to take him on loan with a buy option thought to be in the region of £50 million.
It’s not been a simple spell by any means, as there have been a lot of complications during this period, mostly due to Tottenham’s performances in the league. Early reports stated that Spurs were keen on signing the 20-year-old Frenchman permanently although they were unwilling to pay the agreed buy option amount.
Tel himself was undecided over a permanent move, as he was waiting to see whether Tottenham get European football. As things stand, Spurs’ win in the Europa League Final ensured they will play in next season’s Champions League.
Tel is open to staying in north London permanently, as Tottenham have open talks with Bayern Munich to figure out a way to reduce the asking price. The report specifically suggests Spurs want to pay around £33.5 million plus performance-related add-ons, as Tottenham are ready to make the 20-year-old Frenchman their first signing of the summer.
Will Bayern Munich agree on new terms?
Bayern Munich do not view Tel in their plans for next season and would be open to considering what Tottenham are offering. While they would have liked the agreed-by option to be paid Spurs could have a bargaining chip with the player now keen on a day.
Daniel Levy is the one pushing to get the deal done at the earliest, as Tel could become their first signing of the summer. It remains to be seen how much would Bayern Munich want for the attacker, as Spurs will not pay the agreed buy option of £50 million.
