Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca to travel to Portugal to complete Sporting CP move

Olympique Lyonnais manager will leave France this afternoon in order to travel to Portugal where he will sign a contract to take the helm at Sporting CP, as per a report from Foot Mercato.

The Portuguese manager has been in talks with Sporting CP for several days. Due to their ongoing financial situation, Lyon have been open to facilitating a deal, despite their happiness with Fonseca’s work at the club. OL may receive a fee of around €5m from Sporting CP, whilst the manager’s wage at the club was considerable.

Fonseca was in tears during Sunday’s 2-0 win over SCO Angers and a day later he announced his exit to the Lyon dressing room. Foot Mercato understands that he will sign a deal with Sporting CP that will run until 2030. Jorge Maciel, his assistant, is expected to remain at Lyon for now. He is expected to preside over the last two games (Real Sociedad and Stade Brestois) before the international break. Carlos Vicens is then expected to take the reins at the Groupama Stadium.
