Quadruple Barcelona injury update provided before Aston Villa

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided a fresh update on the wellbeing of the sidelined contingent of players in his squad.

This comes ahead of the Blaugrana turning their focus back towards matters on the continent in a Champions League meeting with Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

Flick and his staff have of course been forced to navigate nothing short of a defensive injury crisis over recent weeks. With all of Andreas Christensen, Jules Koundé and Eric García already on the treatment table, young full-back Xavi Espart was ruled out long-term with a problem of his own.

All four in turn missed out this past weekend, as Barcelona made short work of Deportivo Alavés in a La Liga clash.

Ahead of what is expected to be an altogether more challenging 90 minutes tomorrow evening, Hansi Flick was on Monday therefore asked for an injury update on his squad.

And the Blaugrana’s headmaster went on to explain:

”We have four injured players: Xavi Espart, Eric, Christensen and Koundé. Xavi might return at the start of 2027, others are likely to return after the international break.”
