After Wolves controversy Tolu Arokodare appears to be enjoying his football again at Ajax

Tolu Arokodare is certainly enjoying his football again. After a tough time at Wolves last season, the former Genk striker left English football in controversial circumstances. The training ground incident that saw Arokodare’s time at Wolves come to an end (for now) is now a distant memory for the 25-year-old, and Ajax fans are certainly happy that the Nigerian is no longer in the midlands. Arokodare scored his seventh goal since joining Ajax on loan from Wolves at the weekend as the Amsterdam club drew at home with NEC Nijmegen.

Defender Per Schuurs was certainly impressed by Arokodare and the battle the two had on the pitch. Schuurs said ‘I knew he was big and strong, but he can also jump well. Once he gets airborne, he is at least three meters tall‘.

So far, Arokodare has more goals for Ajax in just 10 games than he managed for Wolves in 38. After scoring 41 goals in 113 games for Genk, Arokodare decided to try his hand at Premier League football. Clearly the fit with Wolves was not the right one, and the training ground fall out allowed both to go their separate ways this season. So far so good for Arokodare, although he would clearly like his goals to help Ajax actually win more games. So far the Amsterdam side are languishing down in fifth in the Eredivisie, already five points behind the league leaders in Feyenoord. They have won two of their last five games and face in an inform Groningen next weekend after a difficult trip to Split in the Conference League.

A season ending injury to Kasper Dolberg has given Arokodare even more chances to show what he can do in Amsterdam. Come the end of the season, the Nigerian striker may be looking at similar scoring numbers to those he managed in Genk. Its fair to say that it is unlikely that he will wear the Gold of Wolves again, but Ajax will surely do what they can to make him a permanent fixture next summer, even if that requires a renegotiation of the previously agreed purchase option.
