Report – Milan Chief Rebuffs Napoli Approach for Star Midfielder
Milan chief Gerry Cardinale reportedly has no intention of letting Adrien Rabiot join Napoli this summer. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are keen to make the Frenchman central to their project under Ruben Amorim.
Rabiot returned to Serie A last summer. Massimiliano Allegri insisted on his arrival from Olympique Marseille, with Milan forking out around €8 million to land the 31-year-old. Rabiot repaid the manager’s trust, establishing himself as Milan’s best-performing midfielder, alongside Luka Modric.
After leaving Milan to take charge of Napoli earlier this summer, Allegri is keen to reunite with Rabiot once again. Therefore, he has earmarked the former Juventus star as one of his top targets. However, the Partenopei must present Cardinale with a mind-blowing offer if they’re to sign the French ace.
Our take on Milan & Rabiot
Rabiot enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign, netting six goals and adding five assists in 29 Serie A appearances. He quickly established himself as the heartbeat of Milan’s midfield, providing the balance and leadership the team had lacked in previous seasons.
Furthermore, his contract runs until 2028 and, as such, the San Siro giants are in no hurry to discuss his sale. Meanwhile, Rabiot’s mother and agent, Veronique, met her son over lunch in Boston yesterday, prompting fresh speculation over his long-term future.
Veronique has played a crucial role in every major decision of Rabiot’s career, making her presence enough to spark rumors whenever transfer interest emerges. With that in mind, it’s not impossible that the pair discussed a potential move to Napoli, where Rabiot would be able to work with Allegri.
However, there’s little doubt that Milan will do everything to keep him at San Siro.
