Barcelona sporting director Deco has this week confirmed that he and his team of transfer executives made the call not to move ahead with an offer for Bernardo Silva this summer.

This came despite the Portuguese having offered his services up to those in a position of power at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Midfielder Bernardo of course secured a move to one of La Liga’s two biggest clubs back in June, linking up with Real Madrid following the expiration of his contract terms with Manchester City.

Whilst still a free agent, though, the 32-year-old is understood to have set his sights on an altogether different landing spot…

Speaking during an interview with Catalan outlet RAC1 this week, the aforementioned Deco was drawn on his fellow countryman’s summer links with Barcelona.

And the Blaugrana chief, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, went on to admit:

“It wasn’t the position we were looking for. He wanted to come to Barça, but it didn’t happen because we have our own parameters. It was an economic issue and about playing minutes. He wanted to play, but I prefer our own players.”
