Arsenal exploring move for former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Arsenal FC have a strong interest in former Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier (26), according to a report from the BBC. The FC Lorient youth graduate has left the Whites this summer upon the expiry of the five-year contract he had signed back in 2021.

Meslier played an important role in Leeds’ push for Premier League promotion in the 2024-2025, although he was dropped in favour of Karl Darlow for the final games of the season. The following campaign saw the French goalkeeper demoted as Leeds’ third-choice goalie behind Darlow and Lucas Perri. Meslier was then released by Leeds United.

The BBC understands that Arsenal are scouring the goalkeepers’ market as they have doubts on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future at the Emirates Stadium as David Raya’s understudy. Meslier’s experience of English football and his contractual situation make him an interesting pick for clubs looking to shake up their goalkeeper department.
