Ferland Mendy out of José Mourinho’s plans at Real Madrid
Having recently taken charge at Real Madrid, José Mourinho is reportedly not planning to call upon Ferland Mendy (31) for the coming season, according to The Athletic.
Having made just nine appearances during the 2025-26 season, the left-back has endured another very difficult campaign, marred by a string of injuries. Such injuries have been a recurring issue for the former Olympique Lyonnais player, and the Madrid management now appear willing to part ways with him this summer.
This is why the club has been busy finalising the signing of Marc Cucurella (27), who has joined from Chelsea FC for a fee of €60 million and is expected to play a first-team role in Mourinho’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
But offloading Mendy will be no easy task. Under contract with Real Madrid until 2028, the Meulan-en-Yvelines native is currently injured and will remain sidelined until November. Enough to put off potential suitors, who are already well aware of his various physical issues.
