La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Saturday been forced to sweat over the wellbeing of star frontman Julián Alvarez. This comes owing to developments at the club’s training base.

Alvarez, for his part, is fresh off his first starting berth of the campaign in midweek, in Atléti’s Champions League defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

Amid ongoing efforts to put the summer controversy surrounding his name behind him once and for all, the Argentine, in turn, was no doubt hopeful of featuring from the off once again on Sunday.

Diego Simeone’s troops are currently in the midst of final preparations for a meeting with Real Sociedad at Anoeta.

As alluded to above, though, 24 hours out from the trip to San Sebastian, Alvarez has been dealt a potential setback on the fitness front. As per a report from Marca:

‘Julián Álvarez sounds the alarm. The Argentine faces difficulties playing at Anoeta after withdrawing from the last training session due to physical problems, pointing to an infirmary where Sorloth and Barrios already are.’
