Gabriel Jesus admits desire to rejoin Palmeiras, seal Arsenal exit
Arsenal outcast Gabriel Jesus admits he wants to rejoin Brazilian club Palmeiras amidst uncertainty around his future.
Arsenal finally secured the Premier League title after Manchester City dropped points against Bournemouth in matchday 37. While Gabriel Jesus is busy celebrating the triumph which brought an end to their 22-year-long drought, even in the moment of euphoria, the player continues to think about a potential return to Palmeiras.
While speaking to , the Brazilian forward said, “I think about it every day, I follow it closely. I watched yesterday’s game, unfortunately they lost [to Cerro Porteño]. It’s my dream, I’ve made it clear that one day I’ll be back, I just don’t know when, if it’s today, tomorrow, so I think about it every day,”
“The future belongs to God, it’s a club I have a lot of affection for, I’m a passionate fan, I’ve spoken about it a lot and my choice when I return to Brazil will always be Palmeiras,”
Gabriel Jesus was a part of the Brazilian club from 2013 to 2017. After two impressive seasons with their first team, he made the move to Manchester City. After doing wonders for Pep Guardiola’s team, Mikel Arteta took him to Arsenal in the summer of 2022.
He was an integral part of Arteta’s plans in the initial years. His ability to drop deep, link up with others, and create chances made Arsenal a lot stronger going forward. The 29-year-old even had a decent output in front of goal in the initial years.
Gabriel Jesus’ time at Arsenal is coming to an end?
However, injuries have caused him a lot of problems of late, and his numbers have also gone down. As a result, the Gunners invested in Viktor Gyokeres last summer. The Swedish international and Kai Havertz are now both ahead of Gabriel Jesus in the pecking order.
The 29-year-old has had less than 1,000 minutes of first-team action in his 26 outings this term. While he is celebrating their Premier League triumph, he isn’t pleased about his situation. The former City star wants to play regular football and could push for an exit in the summer.
With his contract running out in a years time, even the Gunners could look to cash in on him. While Palmeiras haven’t made any moves, the Brazilian striker has certainly made his desire known. He wants to return to the club if and when possible.
For now, he remains a passionate fan and continues to follow them week in and week out. The Brazilian would certainly love to have him in their ranks as he could prove to be a marquee addition, but the finances won’t make things easy for them. The Gunners certainly won’t let him leave for free.
