OGC Nice to play relegation play-off behind closed doors, club appeals decision

The LFP ruled on Wednesday that OGC Nice must play the second leg of their relegation play-off against AS Saint-Étienne behind closed doors. Nice have announced that they have appealed the decision.

A draw against FC Metz, with results elsewhere going against them, ensured that Le Gym will have to face Les Verts in a two-legged playoff in order to retain their top-flight status. The first leg will take place in Saint-Étienne on Tuesday, with the return leg at the Allianz Riviera on Friday.

However, the LFP have ruled that the second leg will take place behind closed doors (the ban is for two matches, with one suspended). It comes after Nice fans invaded the pitch on Sunday, following the goalless draw against Metz. The use of pyrotechnics and the damage done by the home fans were also cited in the LFP’s communiqué.

Nice immediately confirmed that they would be appealing the LFP’s decision.
