Virgil van Dijk comments on Alisson future amid exit links
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has now opened up on the future of Alisson Becker amid the Brazilian goalkeeper’s transfer links.
Alisson Becker has a contract with Liverpool until 2027, and he has been linked with a return to Italy. Juventus are interested in signing the veteran goalkeeper, and it will be interesting to see if the Premier League is prepared to sanction his departure.
Alisson is not just one of the best players at the club; he is also a leader of the dressing room. Liverpool must look to keep players of his quality at the club if they are serious about fighting for trophies next season.
Van Dijk has revealed via Sky Sports that Alisson is looking to return from his injury quickly and help the club finish the season strongly. He also believes that the Brazilian is the best goalkeeper in the world, and his departure would be a huge blow for the club.
However, the Netherlands International maintains that any talk of a potential exit is just a rumour, and he is not too bothered about that.
“Listen, there is always going to be a day where you – including myself – will go,” said Van Dijk.
“But if it’s going to happen – and I have no idea about it and I don’t think at this point he has an idea about it – then we will, as a club, adapt to that.
“We have been through everything together, positive things and some negative things unfortunately as well, so it would definitely be a big blow and a miss but I don’t think, for me, it’s a good idea to think ahead about what could or could not happen.
“He’s very important for me as one of the leaders in the team and I think he is very important on the pitch because I think he is one of the best – in my opinion the best – goalkeeper in the world.
“He’s trying to be back as soon as possible to help us for the last four games and that’s our main focus.
“Whatever happens after that is not something you should ask me. Would I love him to stay? Of course, there’s no doubt about that.
“There are rumours but if there is anything concrete then we will all find out but for me I’m never worried.”
Selling Alisson would be a mistake
It remains to be seen how the situation develops. The Brazilian has been a key player for Liverpool over the years, and he has helped them win every club trophy. Despite that, he remains an indispensable asset for the club, and Liverpool cannot afford to lose him just yet.
Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah have announced that they will leave the club in the summer. Both players are extremely important to Liverpool, and their departures will be a massive blow to the club. Adding Alisson to that list of departures would be a mistake.
Liverpool must hold onto the Brazilian goalkeeper for now.
