Abidjan emerges as the favourite to host the Trophée des Champions
Abidjan has emerged as the frontrunner to host the 2026 edition of the Trophée des Champions, according to a report from L’Équipe. The Ivory Coast capital is currently viewed as the most likely destination, with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) expected to make a final decision on Wednesday.
The annual curtain-raiser, which sees the Ligue 1 champions face off against the Coupe de France winners, has been staged abroad in recent years. Abidjan now appears best placed to continue that trend, offering a high-profile setting in West Africa.
Domestic alternative considered to Abidjan
However, a domestic alternative remains under consideration. Should the LFP ultimately decide against hosting the match in the Ivory Coast, the fixture could revert to being played in France. A final decision is imminent, with organisers set to make their decision on Wednesday.
