West Ham United prepare bid to sign Matheus Martinelli

Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham United are reportedly preparing an offer to sign 24-year-old Fluminense midfield mainstay Matheus Martinelli.

According to a report from RTI Esporte, West Ham United are gearing up to make an offer for Matheus Martinelli, who has been on their radar since last summer’s transfer window. The Hammers are set to revive their pursuit of the Brazilian defensive midfielder, after having scouted him throughout the ongoing campaign.

The East London club were keen on signing him last summer. While they did make an official offer, they were unable to strike a deal with the Brazilian club. However, they did not drop their interest in him and have been closely monitoring him ever since.

West Ham are ready to revive their interest in Martinelli

West Ham United are preparing for a big summer, and they are ready to push harder, as they have identified the 24-year-old as a priority target to reinforce Nuno’s squad. The 24-year-old has a strong physical presence, great defensive awareness, and he is capable enough to help play out from the back. His qualities suggest adjusting to the Premier League won’t be that big a problem.

While he prefers playing in the holding role, Martinelli can feature in an advanced role as well as a centre-back. His versatility is another reason why the Hammers are after him. They are gearing up to make an initial offer of over €15 million for the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at €16 million.

Fluminense want €20 million for Matheus Martinelli

Given his importance in the Fluminense setup and the fact that his contract runs until 2030, the Brazilian club certainly won’t let him leave on the cheap. They want around €20 million to consider parting ways with the youngster.

The Hammers are yet to open negotiations with Fluminense or the player’s camp, but they do have a concrete interest in him and are looking to present themselves as a stepping stone for the player. He could prove himself at the London club before joining a top European club. This will allow the Brazilian outfit to hold a significant percentage of his future sale.

While there are other European clubs in the race, West Ham certainly look determined to get a deal over the line. They believe the 24-year-old could have a massive impact at the club. But for the move to go through, the Irons will have to ensure they continue in the Premier League.
