Real Madrid hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino for summer move

Real Madrid have opened talks with former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino to become their next manager.

According to a report from Fichajes, Mauricio Pochettino is a leading candidate to become the next Real Madrid boss. While the team in white are focused on finishing the season on a high, they have already started planning for the next campaign.

Before they can focus on their transfer plans, Los Blancos need to address the managerial situation. While they could hand Alvaro Arbeloa the reins on a permanent basis, it looks unlikely as the team have not been convincing enough under him.

Since taking over as their manager mid-season after the sacking of Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa has led the team in white in 13 games, and they have lost four of those fixtures. Their Copa del Rey dreams ended relatively early; they are trailing in the 2025/26 La Liga title race and need to go past Manchester City in the round of 16 to stay alive in the Champions League.

Irrespective of how the season ends, there are high chances that Real Madrid will be bringing in a new boss after the end of the season. While there are quite a few names on their wishlist, the in-deman Mauricio Pochettino‘s name stands above the rest.

Real Madrid want Pochettino on their bench

While Mauricio Pochettino might not be a serial winner, the former Tottenham and Chelsea boss has made quite a reputation for himself with his style of football. Given his work at Spurs back in the day, Los Blancos are optimistic that he is the right guy to help re-establish them at the top of European football.

The USMNT head coach is not a stranger to the Real Madrid board, and he has been linked with the job on quite a few occasions in the past. The Merengues have had him on their wishlist for years, and they feel it is the right time to hand him the opportunity of managing their club.

Pochettino is currently in charge of the United States national team, which means any move will have to wait until the end of the World Cup in the summer. Los Blancos seem ready to wait for him, and they have already taken a step towards his appointment. The Spanish giants have opened talks with the Argentine manager. Both parties are gearing up for a first meeting to discuss the details of a potential move.
