Arsenal, Barcelona made to wait until summer in Mika Godts chase

Arsenal and Barcelona reportedly submitted enquiries to discuss a possible move for 20-year-old Belgian winger Mika Godts from Ajax in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Voetbal International, as relayed by Het Laatste Nieuws, Arsenal and FC Barcelona are interested in Mika Godts. The two European heavyweights are keen on reinforcing their offensive units by signing a winger this year. So, the 20-year-old Ajax attacking sensation has emerged as a target for them.

The latest report has revealed that Arsenal and Barcelona were among the prospective suitors for the Leuven-born winger in the winter transfer window, submitting enquiries for a January move. However, Ajax rebuffed the interested clubs, as they had no interest in parting ways with Godts until the summer transfer window.

Who is Mika Godts?

Mika Godts is the latest promising prodigy from his homeland to rise in prominence. Born in Leuven, the youngster spent most of his formative years in Belgium, passing through the academies at RSC Anderlecht and Racing Genk. However, the 20-year-old graduated from the youth division at Ajax after moving to the Netherlands in January 2023.

The Belgian winger has made considerable progress in the last three years, becoming a regular for Ajax’s senior side. Godts has been excellent in the 2025/26 season thus far, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. Arsenal and Barcelona have recently emerged as the prospective suitors vying for the youngster’s signature.

A man in demand

Arsenal’s interest in Mika Godts is understandable. The Gunners are scouring the market for a promising wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window, as Leandro Trossard faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. Additionally, Gabriel Martinelli has been inconsistent in the last two seasons. Several candidates, including Yan Diomande, have thus emerged on Arsenal’s radar, with Godts also a viable target.

As for Barcelona, it is unclear if the Catalan outfit will complete a permanent move for Marcus Rashford in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have claimed that the Red Devils are mulling over keeping the English international after his loan spell with Barcelona ends. So, Godts has emerged as a viable alternative.

Arsenal and Barcelona were among the clubs to approach Ajax to discuss a possible move for the 20-year-old Belgian winger. However, the Eredivisie outfit rebuffed the two European giants, as well as others like AS Roma, Napoli, and VfB Stuttgart. Ajax will only consider the youngster’s departure in the summer transfer window, with his prospective suitors made to wait to secure his services.
