Bruno Guimaraes not keen on Newcastle exit despite Manchester City interest
Bruno Guimaraes has no intention to leave Newcastle United, and he may have snubbed Manchester City’s approaches during the summer.
According to Football Insider, Bruno Guimaraes sees himself at Newcastle United for a long time, as he does not have any intentions to leave the club. The Brazilian midfield powerhouse was the subject of big interest from Pep Guardiola, as he may have received approaches from Manchester City during the summer.
Many of the top teams were looking at top-draw midfield options to shore up the central areas during the summer. There are hardly any options that will elevate a side like Manchester City or Arsenal, as those players are difficult propositions for any team in a window.
For instance, Arsenal signed Martin Zubimendi, and Manchester City signed Tijjani Reijnders to shore up the midfield setup. However, there were reports that both those teams liked the idea of having Bruno Guimaraes in their ranks, with the interest from the Premier League giants going back to more than a year.
Sticking with Manchester City, they had held an interest in Guimaraes earlier in the year, and may have made some informal approaches to gauge the idea of signing him. However, the ever-present Newcastle United star was steadfast in his stance of wanting to remain at Newcastle United.
Pep Guardiola had set his sights on Guimaraes as soon as he missed out on Declan Rice back in 2023, and since then, Manchester City have been tracking the Brazilian consistently. However, they may have seen the ever-present Newcastle United star snub their approaches in the summer in favour of staying put at St James Park.
New contract for Bruno Guimaraes?
Newcastle United had plans to offer Guimaraes a new deal, but the complicated nature of their summer window may have pushed the talks to a future date. The Brazilian is tied to the club until 2028, meaning over the course of the season, the Magpies could potentially consider offering him fresh terms.
For now, his stance is to stay at the club for many more years to come, and that should be reflected by signing a new deal. However, should he snub fresh terms from Newcastle United, Manchester City could sense another door opening in pursuit of the midfielder in the near future.
