The shortlist of candidates to be named October Player of the Month at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Thursday been unveiled online.

And it features some altogether head-turning omissions…

Nowhere to be seen, for one, is Blancos star goalscorer Kylian Mbappé. Frenchman Mbappé took to the pitch on a total of five occasions at club level in October, and racked up seven direct goal contributions, including a match-winning brace against Barcelona.

Also left off the shortlist is midfielder Arda Güler, who carried what has been a stellar individual campaign to date through the month of October.

So, just who has been put forward to be named the best performer in Spain’s capital for last month? As revealed across social media on Thursday, the shortlist is made up as follows:

• Yan Diomandé
• Dean Huijsen
• Federico Valverde
• Thibaut Courtois
• Jude Bellingham

The winner of the award is set to be named over the days ahead.
